Force Certain Road/Track Path
Hold down the Ctrl key, e. g. when laying double rails. For example, if you have a rail going in a long straight line and you want to create another rail parallel to the first, then you have to hold Ctrl key down to prevent them from intersecting each other, or else you would have to click every 3 squares at a time or so.
Vehicles
Mass Refresh of Schedules
If you change your road/track layout, you may need to re-route all vehicles which normally pass (or which should start to use) the changed section(s). This can be achieved by opening the line dialog for each affected line, opening the schedule there, and closing it without any change (can also be done by pressing the Esc key). This way, the schedule info is refreshed, and all vehicles of that line immediately re-calculate their routes (but they keep their own offset within the schedule).
Mass Upgrade of Vehicles
To replace all vehicles of a given line (e. g. line 01) by different/better ones:
- Buy one new vehicle
- assign it to the same line (line 01)
- start it
- open its schedule and press 'promote to line' (thereby creating e. g. line 02, a copy of line 01), close schedule
- Now you can already send out additional new vehicles for line 02.
- Call back old vehicles:
- (open line management (key w or from the menu), choose line 01, press 'update':) insert a depot into the schedule of line 01, so that all vehicles will go to that depot, waiting for further orders.
- Optimization (so you won't lose passengers/cargo and the attached revenue)
- for simple freight transport: insert the depot at a schedule position where the vehicles are empty.
- for bi-directional lines (as opposed to ring lines): put the depot behind an endpoint stop, and repeat that stop after the depot.
- for other cases (functions only available as of version 99.08): you can set each vehicle to 'no load' (button in vehicle dialog) or 'withdraw' (button in vehicle details), which sells it after unloading.
- Sell the old vehicles, assign them to another line, or disassemble them so they can be reused for a different task.
- Once unused, delete or reuse line 01
