General

Key(s) Function
C ("catch") saves a screenshot.
↑ Shift+P changes to the next player (Only if a player change is allowed in the savegame.).

(This will rotate through all defined players, no matter if they are enabled.)

↑ Shift+Q ("quit") (from version 99.14 onwards:) open the dialog "Options".

(up to version 99.13:) open the dialog "New world". (close/cancel that to continue the running game)

↑ Shift+X ("eXit") open the dialog "New world" (close/cancel that to continue the running game)
F1 opens the ingame help.

Game speed

Key(s) Function
P pauses the game (completely, no action possible). Press any key or the left mouse button to continue.
↑ Shift+W toggles fast forward.
, and . slow down, or speed up the game.

Dialogs

Key(s) Function
Ctrl and following click on a tile suppresses the info box of the tile.
Esc and Del closes the active dialog.
← Backspace closes all dialogs.
F opens the finance dialog.
K opens the player list.
M opens the mini-map.
W opens the line management.
↑ Shift+B ("box") opens the message box.
↑ Shift+G ("goods") opens the goods list with the transport prices.
↑ Shift+L opens the dialog "Load game".
↑ Shift+S opens the dialog "Save game".
↑ Shift+T opens the town list.
↑ Shift+V ("vehicles") opens the convoy list.

Tools

Key(s) Function
hold down Ctrl and following click on a tile applies the selected tool to the highest object of the tile (e.g. one on a bridge instead of the one below the bridge).
Ctrl+F2 to Ctrl+F12 saves the current tool on the appropriate function key.
F2 to F12 selects the tool saved on that key.
S ("street") selects the tool for the road type used last; on first use, it chooses the standard road (Pak64: asphalt road).
T ("track") selects the tool for the track type used last (can be tram tracks); on first use, it chooses the standard track (Pak64: track with wooden sleepers).
E ("electrify") selects the tool to electrify tracks.

as of version 89.0: click on start tile and then on the end tile - the electrification is built following the shortest route, passing signals/signs in the allowed direction

before version 89.0: electrifies one complete rail block delimited by signals (click once into the block)

Z undoes the last way building. No costs will be renowned!

Undo may not be possible if you have placed stations, signals or electrification afterwards.

B since version 99.12: toggles display of reserved track tiles
versions 89.x to 99.11: unused
before version 89.00: selects the tool to repair rail blocks (remove incorrect reservations).
A ("ask") selects the info tool.
R ("remove") Selects the removal tool - it removes one item per click, in a certain order.

By this, you can delete buildings and ways (roads/tracks/canals) owned by you or the public, furthermore city cars, pedestrians, power lines and transformers.

D ("down") and

U ("up")

select the tools to lower or raise land, respectively.
↑ Shift+3 selects the tool to plant trees.
G ("generator") selects the tool to build a transformer station (several ones possible at a power plant, a single one at a given consumer).
L ("line") selects the tool to build a power line (to connect transformers of power plants to those of consumers).
↑ Shift+H selects the tool to build the headquarters. This building can cost up to several millions!
↑ Shift+C ("city") selects the tool to found a new town.
↑ Shift+M ("mark") selects the tool to make a sign.

Graphics/View

Key(s) Function
↑ Shift+1 enables/disables the station info (rotate through different modes):
  1. no info
  2. name only
  3. status only
  4. name and status

enables/disables buildings and trees (rotate through different views):
  1. show all
  2. hide town buildings and trees
  3. hide town and special buildings
  4. hide trees
  5. hide town buildings
  6. hide all
# enables/disables the tile borders ("grid").
V enables/disables display of station coverage.
↑ Shift+R rotates the map (available as of V99.15). Caution: this very new feature isn't suitable for actual use yet! Crashes may occur, and your savegame can become unusable.
↑ Shift+U changes to the underground mode and back (since version 99.03).
Page down and < zoom into the map.
Page up and ↑ Shift+< zoom out of the map.
1 draws the view to the southwest.
2 draws the view to the south.
3 draws the view to the southeast.
4 draws the view to the west.
6 draws the view to the east.
7 draws the view to the northwest.
8 draws the view to the north.
9 draws the view to the northeast.
+ and - lighten and darken the view.
