Building bridges
Overpass
To create an overpass, simply build 2 rails in a straight line on both sides of the overpass. Select one of the different types of bridges and then click on the end of one of the pieces of track. The bridge will automatically be created with the incline built directly on the end squares of your rail.
Elevated Overpass
To create an elevated overpass, build your rail on the slopes of each side of the overpass, then click the end piece with the bridge tool to create the bridge. You can also create overpasses that have a higher elevation on one side like the picture above.
Rail Bridges with Electric Catenary
First build the bridge, and then the Electric Catenary over it. If there are more bridges crossing, then the CTRL key forces the upper level.

Rail Tunnels with Electric Catenary
When building the catenary begin on tunnel entry and end on tunnel exit, the catenary is automatically connected, if the tunnel entry and exit are connected with the same way without any holes in the way (i.e. rails). Inside the tunnel, when using underground mode, the catenary can be altered tile by tile. The speed limit depending on the used catenary type is handled in a special way by Simutrans.

Laying double diagonal tracks
Holding down the CTRL key when laying double rails makes life easier. Remember not to place the diagonal tracks too close to each other.
Also remember that the direction in which you lay the track matters. Below are two tracks laid from left to right and one laid from right to left.
Using artificial slopes
By using artificial slopes, it is possible to better use the building space available. By using artificial slopes, it is even possible to build two levels or parallel bridges of the same or different way type (i.e. rail). Also, it is possible to make parallel routes, one on the slope, and under the same way under the slope (underground mode).
